How to change IP address in Ubuntu
Posted by Mark Hill on 11 July 2016 02:53 PM

To change the password on an Ubuntu server

  • Log into the box
  • Sudo nano /etc/network/interfaces:

# auto eth0

# iface eth0 inet static

#     address 192.168.0.***

#     network 192.168.0.0

#     netmask 255.255.255.0

#     broadcast 192.168.0.255

#     gateway 192.168.0.1

  • Change the first address to the IP you require
  • Press control + O to save the changes
  • Press control + X to exit
  • Sudo service networking restart

Unless you are logged in as root the sudo command must be used. Without this you will see permission denied errors
