Re-Imaging and Configuring HP Thin Clients (including how to set/reset VNC passwords and remote reboot from HP Connection Manager)

A) Using HP Device Manager from a Server:

HP Thin Clients can be re-imaged via USB stick

USB stick for deploying the image can be created by taking a backup from a working client - note this will be a base image, which will require configuration

To deploy - plug the USB stick into the thin client and restart - it will automatically deploy and then prompt for the USB to be removed prior to reboot

To configure -

1. Open HP Connection Manager on the customers server

2. Ask the customer to click on the "i" symbol on the desktop of the Thin Client and provide its IP (this will be from local DHCP source)

3. In the HP Connection Manager locate the Thin Client via IP > Right Click on the device> click "Send Task" > Choose "Settings" in the Category Field

4. Choose "_Apply Settings" in the Template field > click "Next" > click "Edit" > enable VNC shadow and set VNC password for the customer > Click "Next" > Click "Finish" > Click "OK"

5. The task is now sent - you can see the process progress in the window underneath the Thin Client listings

6. Once the process has completed (has gone Green) > right click on the IP > click "Shadow" > VNC will start after a few seconds - note if there is a connection issue, you can reboot from the same panel and try again

7. Once you are on the Thin Client > click "Start" > click "new WWW" > complete the URL field with the citrix URL for the customer - e.g. https://options.letn.co.uk/Citrix/XenApp/auth/login.aspx and customer name - citrix in the name field > Enable "Full Screen Mode" > Enable "Use For Citrix" > Save

8. On the power options screen, disable power saving and screen saver.

B) Using a downloaded image:

1. Check this is the right version for the right model - Thin Client has a pull out tab will have the model e.g. t520 (or SNR, which can be used to confirm model using HP warranty checker: http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/wc/public/viewDetails?index=0#1)

2. On a PC/laptop download the thin client base image - ThinPro Image - http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=6875922&swItemId=vc_149108_1&swEnvOid=4030#tab3

3. Once downloaded run the app, select the drive and select "Format" to format the USB stick and install the bootable image

4. Plug the USB into the thin client and restart - at the prompt say "Yes" to re-image, then remove the USB stick at the prompt once completed.

5. Once thin client has started up in the bottom left hand corner of the screen click > Spanner > Admin switch and enter an administrator password and confirm

6. Click on the Spanner > Admin switch > enter password > there will now be a Red Hugh to the edge to the screen confirming you are in Admin mode

7. Click Spanner > Management > VNC Shadow > tick > Enable VNC Shadow and VNC Use Password > Click > Set Password > enter VNC password and confirm

9. On the power options screen, disable power saving and screen saver.
